How to Clean Bathroom Grout

How to Clean Bathroom Grout Like a Pro

Dirty grout makes even a new bathroom look old. Grout is porous, so it absorbs water, soap and dirt, and over time it changes color and can grow mold. The good news is that you can clean it with products you already have at home. Start by mixing baking soda with a little water until you get a thick paste. Apply the paste to the grout lines with an old toothbrush and let it sit for ten minutes. Then spray a mix of equal parts white vinegar and water on top. It will bubble. Scrub the lines again, rinse with warm water and dry with a towel. For black mold spots you may need a stronger cleaner with hydrogen peroxide. Always open a window and wear gloves. When the grout is clean and dry, apply a grout sealer to protect it for the next year. Re-seal once a year, especially in the shower.

What you need

Baking soda, white vinegar, a spray bottle, an old toothbrush, gloves and grout sealer.

How often to clean

A quick clean every month and a deep clean twice a year is enough for most bathrooms.
