Check the flapper
A worn rubber flapper is the most common cause. Replace it – it costs a few dollars.
Adjust the float
If water flows into the overflow tube, lower the float so the water stops 1 inch below the tube.
Check the fill valve
If the problem continues, replace the fill valve.
